Utah County DSLR Photography Class

Over the last few months, I have had several people ask me if I teach photography classes or if I would be willing to teach one in the future. I have LOVED teaching others one-on-one how to use their cameras and get better photos and have loved posting about photography here on this blog. After thinking about it and trying to find out if there is any demand for this, I have decided to teach a Basic Photography Class specifically for DSLR owners who want to take control of their camera, take better photos and begin getting better results from their camera!

The first class will be held in south Utah County at my home each Thursday evening in June. It will cover the relationship between shutter speed-aperture-ISO, shooting in manual mode (as well as how to use the other shooting modes), metering, exposure, using natural light, and photo composition. A DSLR will be required.

The class will cost $150. Class size will be limited (minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 10) and spots will be sold on a first come-first served basis. Just for Fun–Facebook Portrait Sessions

I had this idea the other day as I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed. I noticed that lots of my Facebook friends have profile pictures of themselves a) staring at the computer cam as it snaps a quick photo, b) staring at the camera while they snap a photo of themselves (I am talking the, “I-reached-the-camera-in-front-of-my-self-and-took-a-photo-and-I-don’t-care-if-only-three-fourths-of-my-head-is-showing” kind of self-photo), c) that aren’t photos of them at all (think objects, children, etc.) or best of all–d) THEY DON”T HAVE ONE!

Now, please rest assured that there is nothing wrong with this and that I TOTALLY understand. As a mom who takes the pictures in our house, there exist just about 4 photos of me during 2009 where I am actually mostly in focus (I don’t count the ones that my kids take using my phone where I am only streaks of fuzzy color.) Two of those were taken on my birthday by my daughter while I was making a face at the camera with whipping cream on my lips. Although I am sure there are a handful of people that would LOVE me to post those photos as my Facebook profile photo, I will assure you that I am MUCH more vain than that. So, that doesn’t leave lots of options when it comes to Facebook, Twitter, or blog profile photos and I have now had the same one for over a year (GASP!!!)

OK, here is my idea–why don’t we get together and fix this problem.

At the end of your session, you can turn the camera on me and maybe I will end up with something to use, too!

I’ve set aside a few hours on Saturday, May 8th between 4 and 7 p.m. Sessions will take place in South Utah County. You get dressed up, drop by for a few minutes, I’ll snap some photos and lets see what happens!! See you there!

I wasn’t able to photograph this little baby until several weeks after she was born but we attempted to get some newborn shots anyway. I wasn’t sure we could get any sleeping ones photos. However, she surprised us by falling asleep and letting us get these.

I absolutely loved photographing in this little field of grass with a magnificent view over-looking Deer Valley. Utah mountains in the fall are absolutely lovely to photograph. I just love the beautiful fall colors that speckle the mountains in September and October.

I love photographing these kids and, since they are related to me, I get to do it every year. Sometimes they try to be shy and sometimes they are just plain silly. Somehow we always manage to get some cute shots!

I have been working for AGES to get this blogsite back working. After trying to tweak HTML on my own (learned to never try that again), I crashed the entire thing. Just when I thought I would finally have some time to fix it (read: got my kids enrolled in public school), my computer crashed the next day. SO, after much delay, it partially works and I can add posts and pictures. There are still plenty of links to set up and fix, but at least it is mostly back to some kind of usable.

Okay, now on to the cute baby that inspired the title of this post. This is my niece’s little one. It was super fun to get out and photograph her shortly after she was born. She settled down after a little food and cuddling and we were able to get these. I enjoyed them–hope you do, too!
